This is how professionals drill
1. Drill selection: For metals: use metal drills made of high-performance high-speed steel (HSS). For hard metal or stainless steel: metal drills with titanium coating or made from cobalt alloy.
2. Marking: Mark the drilling location with a marking tool. Position a hardened marking drill and mark the drilling spot with a short hammer blow—this way, the drill won't slip. For HSS drills with cross grinding, marking is not needed. For large drilling diameters, first pre-drill with a smaller drill.
3. Rotation speed: To prevent damage to the drill, drill hard metals at low rotation speeds and with a light touch. For softer metals, use higher rotation speeds. Reduce pressure before breakthrough.
4. Drill cooling: Cool the drill. For long drilling jobs, lift the drill repeatedly and supply cooling fluid, and if necessary, take breaks during drilling.
